چکیده

The inferior vena cava, due to its complex embryogenesis and relationship with other abdominal and thoracic structures, may develop abnormally. The anomalies and variations of inferior vena cava anatomy are very rare occurring in approximately 0.3% of the population. Among these latter, duplication of the inferior vena cava has an incidence of 2–3%. Usually, right inferior vena cava dominates and left inferior vena cava terminates in the right inferior vena cava at the level of the left renal vein. This condition may become problematic in surgical procedures and diagnoses. Herein, a very rare anatomic variation of inferior vena cava duplication was described in a patient who underwent pancreatic resection for pancreatic cancer.

Abdominal neuroblastoma in a child with inferior vena cava anomaly.

Congenital anomalies of the inferior vena cava are rare. Such anomalies pose great challenges to the surgeon in neuroblastoma surgery, especially when unrecognised preoperatively. We report the first case of an abdominal neuroblastoma detected in a child with a developmental anomaly of the left-sided inferior vena cava. The patient underwent surgical resection after good response to preoperativ...

Retrocaval /circumcaval Ureter: Rare Congenital Anomaly of Ureter or Inferior Vena Cava

Retrocaval ureter also referred to as pre-ureteral vena cava is a rare congenital anomaly with the ureter passing posterior to the inferior vena cava and coming medial to it. Though it is a congenital anomaly, patients do not normally present with symptoms until the 2nd and 3rd decades of life from various presenting complain resulting due to hydronephrosis. We present a case reported in Bhavna...

Inferior vena cava anomalies : Incidental finding in two cases during computed tomography scan

Inferior vena cava anomaly is usually asymptomatic. It is rare and commonly detected while performing abdominal imaging for other clinical situations. The anomalies can mimic normal anatomical structures. Thus, the identification of the anomalies is important to avoid complication during abdominal procedures. We report two cases of inferior vena cava anomalies found during Computed Tomography s...

Infrahepatic caudal/inferior vena cava interruption with azygos/hemiazygos continuation. Vascular anomaly in swine

BACKGROUND Swine are commonly used as a model to study congenital cardiovascular defects that occur in humans and these models have been both spontaneous and experimentally induced. Ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, and atrial septal defect (ASD) are examples of experimentally induced models. Absence of caudal/inferior vena cava (CVC/IVC) with azygos/hemiazygos continuation i...

Heterotaxy syndrome and interrupted inferior vena cava (IVC) with azygos continuation

Heterotaxy syndrome or situs ambiguous is a rare congenital disease in which the pattern of anatomical organization of the thoraco-abdominal visceral and vascular structures is not arranged in normal position. Patients with heterotaxy syndrome represent a wide range of anatomical variations including thoraco-abdominal structures. Here we report a rare case of asymptomatic heterotaxy syndrome in...
